Development Bank of Zambia


The Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) is a national development finance institution, regulated by the Bank of Zambia, supervised by the Ministry of Finance, and mandated by the Government of the Republic of Zambia to provide financial and non-financial solutions to enhance economic growth in the country.

According to the DBZ Strategic Business Plan 2020-2024, the Bank’s vision, mission statement and goals of Strategic plan are as follows:

Vision:  To be a beacon of excellence and partner of choice in development financing

Mission statement: To promote Zambia’s sustainable socio-economic development
through the provision of innovative financing, investment and technical support services.

Goals of the Strategic Plan: to attain financial dominance by expanding the Bank’s
regulatory capital base to K2.5 billion and achieve an internationally-recognized excellence rating by 2024

Priority Sectors under the Strategic Plan

  • Agriculture
  • Manufacturing
  • Education
  • Health
  • Water
  • Mining and mineral processing
  • Energy
  • Environment and infrastructure.

The development of SMEs is also particularly being targeted.

During the course of its implementation, the Strategic Plan will also take on board the new priorities that will be
defined by the Government under the upcoming Eighth National Development Plan from 2022 onwards.
